What’s in a name? It’s easy to agonize over naming a product, service or company. In the long run, does it really matter? If the business is good, then the name becomes rather irrelevant.
Consider some of the most famous companies and how relevant their names are to what they do:
Google, Apple, Uber or Amazon don’t have names that share any indication of their function, products or services but they are short and memorable. In any case, this particular name was chosen back in 2015 when first thinking about starting a solo startup studio.

So, why “Graystone”? Well, it’s actually a bit of a silly story with little to do with business at all.
One of the greatest shows of all time (in my opinion) is Battlestar Galactica. Not the original campy version from the 1970s but the reimagined version by Ronald D. Moore that ran from 2003 – 2010.
After the run of this epic show, there was a short lived prequel called Caprica. Part of the show covers the origin of the Cylons, the main antagonists of the human race within BSG.
No spoilers, but the original inventor of the Cylons was Daniel Graystone of Graystone Industries.
Daniel Graystone was a standout character on an otherwise dud of a show. In any case, he invented the technology which became the catalyst for the entire BSG journey.
The name sounded cool, hence the name of the company.
